Learning Academy is designed to support students who learn in different ways or at a different pace from others in small group learning environments. Learning Academy serves students in grades 1-8 in extended day and summer programs that are designed to build skills in reading, math, and writing, as well as help students develop better organizational and social skills.
Students must be referred to this program by their current teacher. If you feel your child would benefit from this program, please discuss this opportunity further with their current teacher.
Offered through Itasca Area Community Education at ISD 316-Greenway, ISD 317-Deer River, ISD 318-Grand Rapids and Bigfork, and ISD 319-Nashwauk/Keewatin.
MN Licensed Teachers use alternative instructional methods, individualized for each students:
- Hands on Activities
- Service learning
- Integrate technology
- Experiential or project based
- Small groups
Academic services strive to:
- Increase critical reading skills, strategies and comprehension.
- Build basic skill areas: math, science, reading, writing, and other academic areas.
- Encourage reading for enjoyment.
- Study and test taking skills.
Social/Emotional services can focus on:
- Responsible decision making
- Promoting social/civic responsibility
- Expressing and managing emotions effectively
- Building positive peer relationships
