National Community Ed Day

National Community Ed. Day is celebrated on the second Thursday of November each year.

National Community Education Day – November 9, 2023

National Community Education Day is a day to recognize our community for continued efforts to embrace learning at all ages.  It is also a day to say Thank You for participating with Community Education across Itasca County!

History of Community Education:
1930’s  – Began in Flint, Michigan during the Depression and was developed to provide programs outside of the school day for children and was expanded to adults.
1971 – MN allocated funds for the establishment of 67 local community education programs.
1972 – Itasca County Schools began Community Education programming.
By 1991, 417 of Minnesota’s 425 school districts levied for community education. Programs ranged from early childhood family education and school-aged childcare to adult literacy and enrichment opportunities.
Over the years our mission has remained constant to provide learning opportunities for individuals to enrich and enhance their lives and the quality of life within our community.  Community Education brings community members together to identify and link community needs and resources in a manner to empower people to raise the quality of life in their communities.  We invite you to GET LEARNING with us!  Classes are offered for all ages and all skill levels throughout the year at a variety of locations. Register today for one of the many classes or activities offered throughout the Itasca Area.  Every day is a day to learn, be a part of it!
