Head Start works with our Invest Early partners to provide programming in Grand Rapids, Deer River, Nashwauk/Keewatin, Greenway-Taconite/Marble. We also have classrooms in International Falls and Northome in Koochiching County. Preschool and family support for pregnant women, infants and children up to age five. (Income guidelines apply for all Head Start Programs) Pregnant mothers, infants and toddlers ► Head Start Teen Age Parent Program (TAPP) Programming for students working toward their high school diploma or GED and attending the Area Learning Center in Grand Rapids. Head Start also offers a teen out-reach program in Deer River. "To deliver comprehensive wrap-around services to children and their families while evaluating the long term impact of the investment." (Blended Classes with Kootasca Head Start, Invest Early, and School Readiness) Classes for children ages 3-Kindergarten Entrance. 1 common application to complete. No income guidelines. Sometimes young children need special support in their early years to help them grow and learn with more success. Early Childhood Special Education offers a variety of services at no cost to children and their families: information and referral; screening; evaluation; special education classes and related services under FAPE (Free and Appropriate Education laws); and coordination of services, which might include specialized instruction, assistive technology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychological services and more. Parent/Guardians, please remember to call for an Early Childhood Screening appointment when your child is 3½ or just turning 4. All children must be screened once before kindergarten entry or participation in Early Childhood programs. Screening is free, it’s fun and it’s a great opportunity for you to see your child’s total growth. Screening includes: Height • Weight · Vision • Hearing · General development • Health History · Immunization Review If potential problems are identified, your child will receive appropriate follow-up or be connected with resources in the school and community. Your child will automatically be enrolled into a school district at the time of screening.
